The kids were so great at the meeting yesterday. I told them about the cancer diagnosis and they each responded in their own way. Nathan was upset and said that he had told Caroline that he wasn't too worried about the meeting because he could handle anything except divorce or cancer and he knew it wasn’t either of those. They figured it wasn't divorce since we are about to teach a marriage class at church. LOL! So when he heard it was cancer, he was very upset. But he said that he read his Bible that morning and he had read Luke 8, which said, "She will be healed." That gave us all comfort.
Jack was very quiet and really didn't say much at all. I worry about him the most as he has so many life transitions right now and this is just one more thing for him to deal with. If he can just pass Calc 2! I am praying for that so he can feel confident in the next steps. He said he wanted to be business strategy & innovation with an AI minor, which seems to be a perfect fit for him. He did ask everyone how they (kids) can support me during this time, which was very sweet. Of course I just told them to text me/call to check in. That means the most.
Savannah was very upset – her little lip quivering as she does when she's keeping the floodgates closed. She was very motherly and asked a lot of questions about how I would be cared for, how our insurance worked, etc. She seemed very scared and Brian just said she was terrified. I would agree with that.
Every day Brian is by my side with such strength. I want to be careful to protect him so he doesn't get worn down in all of this. It is so much emotion! But every morning, I move close to him and we hold each other tight. We lay there like that as long as we can until the world makes us leave. Oh how I pray that I can be well for him. He needs me so much and I just can't see a world without us together in it.
Last night, I found myself getting sad about my new plant-based diet and supplements. I found myself searching online for answers to my battle with cancer & then I realized I was trying to take control and I was not leaning on God. I put my phone away and peace washed over me. I must focus my attention on God through this & I know it will be a continuous struggle. I woke up from a dream this morning & all I remember is "Like a small oark." I lay there wondering what that was and concluded it was supposed to be "oar." And then I remembered the opening line of Katy Perry's Fight Song, "Like a small boat," and decided God was giving me a message to fight and stay strong. I have to not stray from my focus on Him, on the things that matter, on my life legacy. Here's to Day 2 with focus!
