Telling My Parents

Today I told my parents. They aren't often in Atlanta, but they paused for a night here on their way home from the beach to visit friends. We met for breakfast at 7:30 at Keke's (horrible place – I don't recommend). After some small talk about GT, their trip, and a trip out west we keep talking about, I finally paused and said, "Well, we have some news. I was diagnosed with breast cancer."

They handled it well – my mom tearing up – and then we parted ways. She then messaged me to say she had been crying all day and she wished she could take this from me. My dad sent an email saying how he had been looking at pictures of me and was thinking about how strong I was and how he knew I would get through it. It’s so hard to have to tell the people you love something that makes them hurt so much. It truly breaks my heart over and over each time I have to say the words.

I went to work and met with Alex, my fabulous assistant, which was a great break from everything. Then the Roswell Rotary email went out asking for prayers for me along with a few other groups, and I spent some time responding to those sweet texts. I think tomorrow I will make a video to post on social media and then start a blog on my website to share updates.

I think that would be easier than writing here in this journal because writing physically takes forever. Brian is a godsend and has been helping me to organize all of our notes about my diagnosis, and he's been helping me with the insurance and the bills. I am so thankful for him and his gifts in this area, as I get completely overwhelmed by it all. I just want to make sure not to burden him too much in everything.
