Yesterday was a pity party day but also one of those days full of blessings. I just have to choose which one I want to focus on and every minute of the day has had to be faced with great intention to stay positive. On 11/3/26, I also went to an ENT doctor about a pressure I had been having in my left ear. I had had it looked at my a regular family practice doctor twice and they did a few little things but nothing that made any real difference. With all that is going on, I decided I need to move to an appointment with a specialist so I saw Dr. Downie at Atlanta Institute for ENT. I had randomly picked him from this practice but I we talked and I told him I had just been diagnosed with cancer, he let me know that his wife had also been diagnosed recently and because of that history, he wanted to do an MRI on my head. Of course, this gets the roller coaster of emotions going thinking that it has spread to other places so I'm trying to fight the battle of worry about this.
As I went though my day, I got so many sweet texts from so many people and this is just such a big blessing in life. Many people would say to me that I was so strong and that they knew I would be fine. But on my pity party day, I really didn't want to hear it. I wanted to scream out that I am not always strong and in fact I am very scared right now because I truly am. But their words kept circulating in me head and hearing them over and over in your subconscious does help to pull a person out of their pity party a bit so that was good.
That night we went to church for dinner where I ate my vegetarian meal and felt sorry for myself that I couldn't have the yummy dessert that Jacob makes. Once we came home, the floodgates opened and I just cried. I mourn the old way I lived -freedom from illness, not a care in the world, eating yummy foods and drinking a glass of wine. Diet and alcohol play a big role in healing from cancer so I am now alcohol and on a whole food plant-based diet. But then I also just felt silly to be upset because I am here on earth and I am alive.
God also sent me another message in Mark 5:21-34 about the woman who touched Jesus' cloak. She had been to every doctor and spent all of her money trying to be healed but it was only when she touched His cloak that she received true healing. I am keeping this tucked close to me today as I travel the roller coaster of emotions. Must stay positive!
My friend, Jennifer, sent me to the Jennifer Simmons website and I found this great video on food's effect on cancer
