Nov 3 – Election Day
Today I have my appointment with my surgeon. I have been nervous about this day but for some reason, last night, I slept really well for the first time in many nights. I woke up to my Bible Study which was Mark 5:11-20. In reading it, I heard the message loud and clear to tell my story of Jesus so I think that my blog page is my answer. I am going to get that started today as a place where I can share research and thoughts for others and they can share with me too. I think it will be a good release for me and also a lot easier than physically writing in this journal.
My appt with the surgeon went really well yesterday. I was referred to the practice by my OB-GYN but I had to book my appointment with a specific doctor. I read all of their bios and went with Dr. Meredith Redden. She is from the South and she looked like someone you could be good friends with. Silly criteria, but at the end of the day, I didn't feel like I needed the most top-trained doctor in the world for what I have. But I do know that I would throw a lot of outside-the-box ideas at her, so I wanted someone who would listen and give me honest answers. I truly loved Dr. Redden and feel confident that God led me to her.
Right now we are waiting to schedule the MRI of my breasts, but I am Stage 1 & 0 in each spot and I am hormone receptor positive, which is great news. I am waiting on the HER2 results, but Dr. Redden didn't think that would come back positive. I am also going to meet with my functional medicine doctor on Thursday and have her run genetic testing for the breast cancer gene, which will be a deciding factor between a double mastectomy or just a lumpectomy. Big, big differences based on the smallest of things in our bodies.
Today, I watched this fascinating video on some integrative approaches to breast cancer that I definitely want to discuss with my functional doctor on Thursday. I am excited to hear her thoughts and I've already messaged her to Get Ready! I've been a difficult patient for her in wanting to slow roll a lot of what she recommends, but now I am all in!
