Happy Earth Day!

Angela Medley April 22, 2026

This Earth Day, I wanted to do something simple but still meaningful for my neighborhood.

I put together a short note for my neighbors with a few easy, realistic ways to cut back on plastic in everyday life. I paired each letter with a reusable tote bag as a small Earth Day gift, something practical that also serves as a reminder that small choices really do add up over time.

Plastic pollution is one of those issues that’s easy to overlook, but it’s everywhere. From bottles and packaging to everyday single-use items, so much of it ends up in landfills, parks, and waterways. One person alone can’t solve it, but when a lot of people make small shifts, it starts to create real, lasting change.

In the note, I focused on simple habits like bringing reusable bags to the store, using refillable water bottles, skipping plastic straws and utensils, recycling correctly, and choosing products with less packaging. Nothing overwhelming, just small, doable changes.

I also recommended the documentary A Plastic Ocean. You can watch it here on Youtube.

I actually stumbled across it on a Delta flight, and it ended up having a much bigger impact on me than I expected. It highlights the reality of plastic pollution in our oceans and its effect on marine life, while also offering practical solutions and a reminder that what we do individually still matters.

Sometimes all it takes is a little more awareness to start making better choices. If this small gesture gets even a few more people thinking about it, that feels like a win.

One of my favorite parts of this project was handing out the reusable eco bags. It’s such a simple item, but one that can be used again and again long after Earth Day has passed.

Earth Day isn’t just about one day of action. It’s about the small habits we build over time. My hope is that this small gesture encourages others to think about simple ways they can reduce plastic waste and take better care of the environment.
