Best Parks & Walking Trails in Roswell, GA: My Favorite Outdoor Places to Explore

Roswell Angela Medley September 7, 2026

One of the many reasons I love living in Roswell, Georgia, is how easy it is to step outside and enjoy nature. Whether you're looking for a peaceful morning walk, a scenic hiking trail, a place to picnic with family, or somewhere to spend the afternoon with your dog, Roswell offers an incredible variety of parks and green spaces.

For many families relocating to North Atlanta, access to beautiful outdoor recreation is just as important as finding the right home. It's one of the qualities that makes Roswell such a wonderful place to live.

Here are a few of my favorite outdoor destinations around Roswell.

Vickery Creek Trail (Old Mill Park)

If you're new to Roswell, this is one of the first places I recommend visiting.

Located within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Vickery Creek Trail combines history, nature, and some of the most beautiful scenery in North Atlanta. You'll find picturesque waterfalls, the historic Roswell Mill ruins, a charming covered bridge, and shaded hiking trails that are enjoyable throughout the year.

Whether you're looking for an easy afternoon walk or a place to take visiting family and friends, Vickery Creek is always a favorite.

Chattahoochee Nature Center

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is one of Roswell's true treasures.

This peaceful destination features walking trails, native wildlife exhibits, educational programs, gardens, and beautiful views overlooking the Chattahoochee River. It's the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the beauty that makes North Atlanta so special.

Families with children especially enjoy the hands-on learning opportunities and seasonal events offered throughout the year.

Leita Thompson Memorial Park

Leita Thompson Memorial Park offers a quieter, more secluded outdoor experience.

The wooded trails wind through mature trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying nature. The park also features a fishing pond and one of the area's most popular dog parks, making it a favorite destination for pet owners.

It's a wonderful place to unwind after a busy day.

Roswell Area Park

Roswell Area Park is one of the city's most versatile parks.

With a walking path around the lake, playgrounds, athletic fields, tennis courts, open green space, and community facilities, there's something here for everyone. Whether you're meeting friends, exercising, or spending time with family, it's a park you'll likely visit again and again.

It's also a great example of the active lifestyle that attracts so many families to Roswell.

Garrard Landing Park

One of Roswell's hidden gems is Garrard Landing Park.

Nestled along the Chattahoochee River, this peaceful park offers river access, walking paths, a playground, picnic areas, and plenty of open space to relax. It's less crowded than some of the larger parks, making it an ideal spot for a quiet afternoon outdoors.

If you're looking for a place to enjoy nature away from the hustle and bustle, this is one of my favorite recommendations.

Why Outdoor Living Makes Roswell So Special

One of the biggest advantages of living in Roswell is that beautiful outdoor spaces are never far away. Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, walking your dog, or simply relaxing under the trees, you'll find countless opportunities to enjoy an active lifestyle right outside your door.

Combined with award-winning schools, a vibrant Historic Downtown, excellent restaurants, community events, and convenient access to Atlanta, these parks are just one more reason so many families choose to call Roswell home.

As a longtime Roswell resident and local real estate advisor, I love helping families discover not only the right home but also the lifestyle that comes with living here.
